FeedTamer's Hide Shorts switch hides the Shorts surfaces it supports on YouTube pages in desktop browsers compatible with Chrome Web Store. Hide Shorts is on by default. Hide Shorts is free with no time limit. Search and subscriptions keep working either way.
Turn Shorts hiding on or off
- Install FeedTamer in a compatible desktop browser. Use the official Chrome Web Store listing. No account or card is required.
- Open Settings. Click the FeedTamer icon on the toolbar. Hide Shorts is one of the YouTube switches.
- Leave Hide Shorts on to keep Shorts off the pages FeedTamer filters, or turn it off if you still watch them.
Shorts switch or keyword rule?
They solve different problems. The Shorts switch hides the Shorts surfaces FeedTamer supports; a keyword rule matches title words in regular videos. See how to block YouTube videos by keyword.
A Show rule does not bring Shorts back
Hide Shorts applies to a whole section, so a Show rule does not bring a hidden section back.
Hiding the channel of a blocked Short
While Hide Shorts is off, the option Blocking a Short blocks its channel hides a channel's other videos once one of its Shorts has been hidden by one of your rules. The block lasts until you close or reload the YouTube page and does not add a channel rule to your list.
Turning Hide Shorts on makes the option inactive. The option Blocking a Short blocks its channel comes with the subscription or the trial.
Other sections you can hide
With the subscription, Settings also has switches for home page recommendations, related videos next to the player and suggestions when a video ends. Section switches hide mixes, news shelves, playables and other sections. See every rule FeedTamer offers.
What the Shorts switch does not do
- It does not filter the YouTube phone or TV apps. This installation is for desktop browsers compatible with Chrome Web Store.
- It is not a parental-control security boundary. A person can disable or remove the extension.
- YouTube changes can affect coverage. Check the result with your own rules.
