FeedTamer is a YouTube filter for the computer your kid uses. Hiding videos by word, hiding videos by channel and Hide Shorts are free with no time limit.
- Made for young kids learning the computer. It is not a lock for older kids.
- It does not filter the YouTube phone or TV apps. This installation is for desktop browsers compatible with Chrome Web Store.
- FeedTamer does not replace adult supervision.
What you can hide
- Shorts. Hide Shorts is on by default. Search and subscriptions keep working either way.
- A whole channel. A channel rule accepts the channel's @handle or a link to the channel. A blocked video or channel opened from a link returns you to the YouTube home page.
- Words in the title. Hide videos whose titles match words you add. Title rules do not analyze spoken words, transcripts, or everything shown inside a video.
- Ready-made subjects. Sixteen ready-made subjects, among them pranks, graphic violence and gambling, turn on with one tap. Subjects and section switches come with the subscription.
- Only the channels you choose. Allow shows only what you add and hides everything else. Allow mode comes with the subscription or the trial.
- Music. A music rule hides videos that play an artist or song you name, matched against what the page states, never the audio. The ready-made Explicit music list matches explicit funk terms and names no artists. Music rules come with the subscription or the trial.
- Autoplay into a blocked video. When autoplay is about to start a blocked video, FeedTamer cancels it with YouTube's own Cancel button.
Set it up in three steps
- Install FeedTamer in a compatible desktop browser. Use the official Chrome Web Store listing. No account or card is required.
- Add a channel or a word. Click the FeedTamer icon on the toolbar to open Settings. The box accepts a title word, an @handle or a channel link, and the Hide button saves the rule.
- Check the result. Settings shows how many videos were hidden today and how many each rule has caught.
For phones, tablets, TVs or kids who already change settings, also use YouTube's supervised accounts and the device's own controls.
