To stop seeing a channel's videos, add the channel in FeedTamer Settings. Paste its @handle or a channel link into the Hide a word or channel box and select Hide. FeedTamer then hides that channel's videos on the YouTube pages it filters, including the home feed, search and watch recommendations, in desktop browsers compatible with Chrome Web Store. Channel hiding is part of the free version, with no time limit.
Set up a channel rule
- Install FeedTamer in a compatible desktop browser. Use the official Chrome Web Store listing. No account or card is required.
- Open Settings. Click the FeedTamer icon on the toolbar. All rule editing happens there.
- Add the channel. Paste the channel's @handle or a link to the channel into the Hide a word or channel box and select Hide. The @handle is more precise than a channel name, because similar names can belong to different channels.
- Check the result. Each saved rule shows how many videos it has hidden. Edit or remove the rule in Settings at any time.
What happens when you open a hidden channel
A blocked video or channel opened from a link returns you to the YouTube home page. Searches are never redirected: matching results are hidden on the results page.
Channel rule or keyword rule?
Use a channel rule when the unwanted videos come from one creator. Use a keyword rule when the same subject keeps arriving from different channels. Both kinds of rule live in the same list.
Keep one channel visible
With the subscription, a Show rule keeps a channel visible even when a section or subject would hide it. Show rules are in Settings: open More options and choose Show.
What a channel rule does not do
- It does not block the creator's account. It also leaves your YouTube account preferences unchanged.
- It does not filter the YouTube phone or TV apps. This installation is for desktop browsers compatible with Chrome Web Store.
- It is not a parental-control security boundary. A person can disable or remove the extension.
- YouTube changes can affect coverage. Check the result with your own rules.
YouTube's own option
YouTube's "Don't recommend channel" helps tune your recommendations. FeedTamer applies explicit rules locally to visible content on supported pages. If YouTube's own controls meet your needs, you may not need an extension.
